Sen. Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa joined us at UTRGV in Edinburg during the opening ceremony of the Hate Ends Now cattle car exhibit.
Speaking as both an alumnus of the university and someone deeply connected to the Jewish community, he reflected on the role of education in shaping how we understand the past and move forward.
“If we don’t understand what happened, we risk repeating the same mistakes.”
His words served as a powerful reminder that education is not just about history; it is about responsibility.

We were honored to welcome Dean Senator Judith Zaffirini to TAMIU as part of our Campus Antisemitism Programming initiative with the Hate Ends Now cattle car exhibit.
Her words reminded us why this work matters, and why education remains our most powerful tool:
“It’s easier to deny than to understand. It’s easier to reject than to study.”
In reflecting on the exhibit, she spoke about the persistence of hatred beyond the Holocaust and the responsibility we carry to confront it through education, knowledge, awareness, and dialogue.
We are grateful for her leadership, her presence, and her unwavering commitment to education.
