Austin City Auditor The City Auditor is to provide audit and investigative services for the City of Austin Corrie Stokes is currently the City Auditor for the City of Austin.

The Austin City Charter created the Office of the City Auditor to assist the Austin City Council, citizens, and City management in establishing accountability, transparency, and a culture of continuous improvement in City operations and service delivery. To achieve this mission, we conduct performance audits, complete special projects, and investigate reports of fraud, waste, or abuse. By remaining free of any influences, we are able to provide objective and credible information to the City Council, the citizens, and City management. Our office provides regular reports and briefings to the City Council through the Audit and Finance Committee. She was appointed by City Council in May 2015.

Our office recently released a special report on Shared Living Homes. Our auditors were tasked with examining how peer cities regulate shared living homes, including sober homes, boarding homes, and group homes. We noted that peer cities regulate homes with significantly fewer residents than Austin does. While some peer cities inspect homes four times per year, Austin inspects only once per year.

On July 20th, we presented and published our audit report on Nonprofit Contract Performance Management.

We found that the City does not ensure that nonprofits provide agreed-upon services. As a result, vulnerable residents may not get the services they are supposed to receive. It also does not consistently conduct or document evaluations of nonprofit performance at the end of each contract. These gaps increase the risk of the City continuing to fund nonprofits with known performance problems.

Last Monday, July 20th, 2026, we presented and published the results of the Sworn Public Safety Mental Health Audit.

We found that the City of Austin offers mental health support for its sworn public safety employees, but some employees were hesitant to use these resources and felt that they may not address the root causes of strain on their mental health. We also saw that the support also varies by department and proactive support could be improved.
