🚧 A LOT GOING ON IN AUSTIN BOROUGH TODAY! 🚧

As we continue working for the betterment of Austin day by day, we want to make residents aware of several traffic restrictions throughout the Borough.

🚧 Main Street / Route 607
Main Street is currently restricted to one lane due to Verizon work on the utility lines.

🚧 Garretson Street Bridge / Summit Street
The Garretson Street Bridge is down to one lane as work continues. Summit Street entering from Garretson Street is closed until that lane is paved.

🚧 Railroad Street
A section of Railroad Street will be fully closed due to ongoing UGI repair and maintenance work on the gas lines. Residents in the affected area have been notified.

We ask all residents to please slow down, drive cautiously through these areas, obey all posted signage and traffic laws, and give crews plenty of room to work safely.

We appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation as we continue working to make improvements throughout the Borough.

🥶 WELL… THAT ESCALATED QUICKLY. 🍂➡️❄️

Apparently Mother Nature has decided that fall was fun while it lasted.

A Freeze Warning is in effect across our area for tonight, with temperatures expected to dip well below freezing in parts of the region.

If you still have flowers, garden goodies, or other sensitive plants hanging on, tonight is their last-minute evacuation notice. Bring ’em in, cover ’em up, or say a respectful goodbye. 👋

Stay warm, Austin!

And remember… Winter is Coming. 🥶 (The North Remembers)

The Freeze Watch has been upgraded to a Freeze Warning across the northwest mountains for tonight.

Frost Advisories remain in effect for locations west of I-99 and along/north of I-80.

Take steps to protect sensitive vegetation if you are in a Warning or Advisory!

115 years ago today, at 2:30 in the afternoon, Austin was changed forever.

On September 30, 1911, the Bayless Dam gave way. A wall of water tore down Freeman Run and through the heart of our town. In a matter of minutes, homes, businesses, and lives were swept away.

Austin rebuilt. That is who we are. The people who stayed, who cleared the wreckage, who raised this borough back up from the mud, they are the reason we are still here today.

Today, we remember the 78 lives lost.

We are the town too tough to die.

🎉 BIG NEWS FOR AUSTIN BOROUGH! 🎉

We are excited to share that Austin Borough has been awarded $76,000 through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development Local Share Account (LSA) program to construct a new salt shed!

This funding is a significant investment in our community and will help us improve our ability to safely and efficiently maintain our roads during the winter months. 🛣️❄️

The LSA program is funded through Pennsylvania gaming revenues, and these highly competitive grants provide an important opportunity for small rural communities like Austin to make much-needed infrastructure improvements.

Austin Borough Council is grateful to PA State Rep. Martin Causer and Senator Cris Dush for advocating for our communities and helping bring this funding home. We are also proud of the work that goes on behind the scenes to identify funding opportunities, develop strong applications, and keep Austin moving forward.

This is another step toward building a stronger, safer and more resilient Austin Borough. 💙

Thank you to everyone who continues to believe in and invest in our little borough. ❤️

🚨 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: PLEASE DO NOT FLUSH WIPES 🚨

“Flushable” wipes have caused clogs in our lift stations and wastewater treatment plant pumps.

“Flushable” does NOT mean flushable in the Borough of Austin.

Wipes do not break down like toilet paper and can clog pumps, cause backups, and lead to costly repairs.

‼️‼️‼️PLEASE NEVER FLUSH WIPES.‼️‼️‼️

This includes flushable, baby, cleaning, disinfecting, makeup-removal, and other disposable wipes.

Wipes belong in the trash.

Toilets are for toilet paper and human waste.

Thank you for helping protect Austin’s sewer system.
