LUNCH & POLITICS, SATURDAY, APRIL 18, 2026
> Freedom of Speech
> Candidates' Open Mic
• Join us for our regular third Saturday meeting for lunch and politics for a discussion of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution…
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
…with focus on freedom of speech and its consequence freedom of the press in Texas today with two of Austin’s outstanding proponents: Gus Bova of the Texas Observer and Kimberley Jones of the Austin Chronicle.
Note also that we will start with our Candidates’ Open Mic for any candidate on an upcoming ballot in northeast Travis County this year to briefly present themselves.
We will meet in the La Palapa Restaurant and Cantina at 6640 East Highway 290 in Austin starting at noon. Come early (from 11:30 a.m.) to settle in (and order lunch) before we start.

Bring a friend to our monthly Lunch & Politics at La Palapa on Saturday, February 21st.
Candidates’ Open Mic is back. If you are (or will be) on a ballot in northeast Travis County, Texas, this year sign in on the candidate roster at the door for a couple minutes to introduce yourself and, perhaps, take a question or two.
Candidates, bring your signs! It is the time to boldly advertise the party primary election.
After the business session, our speaker will be club member Judge Laurie Eiserloh, presiding judge of Texas’ 455th District Court, to speak to our often confusing system of federal and state and criminal and civil courts.
More detail at:
