Thank you to Lake Corpus Christi State Park - Texas Parks and Wildlife for having TOF at your annual Spring Fling event! We learned so much about plants and why they’re important, and met several future birders making DIY bird feeders.🥜
Remember, native plants are crucial for our birds because they provide the perfect nutritional balance to keep the birds healthy and strong!💪🏼 You can help the entire ecosystem by planting native plants around your home (plus you get to see all the super cool animals visit you).🪻🌾 Learn more at https://www.audubon.org/native-plants
Want to make your own bird feeder at home? Here’s what we did!
You’ll need:
• an empty toilet paper roll
• some peanut butter (feel free to use a peanut alternative!)
• some small size bird seed
• a paper clip
• a utensil for spreading (like a butter knife)
and
• plates for easy rolling
What you do:
1. Spread peanut butter on a plate with your utensil and pour bird seed on another plate.
2. Take a paper clip and bend it into the hanging shape you prefer (parent help encouraged!). Then, poke it through the toilet roll.
3. Hold the ends of the toilet roll and roll it in the plated peanut butter. We recommend leaving a little un-peanut-buttered spot for your fingers!
4. Roll your peanut-buttered toilet roll in the plated bird seed.
5. YOU DID IT!! Now you have your very own bird feeder!🤩
