A quick reminder regarding recreational fires within the city of Austin due to multiple illegal burning incidents this weekend.

🍂 Do NOT burn leaves, yard waste, garbage, or other debris.

🪵 Recreational fires should only contain clean, plain firewood—no treated, painted, or manufactured wood. They should not be larger than a 3 foot length and height.

Please burn responsibly, be considerate of your neighbors, and ALWAYS keep your fire attended.

Keep it clean. Keep it safe. Keep it legal. Thank you!

Our most sincere condolences go out to Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office for their loss of Deputy Kathrine Frank. She was just over two years into the job. Responding to a call, the suspect fired upon three deputies. Kathrine paid the ultimate sacrifice.

She graduated in Dawson Minnesota before taking the deputy position in South Dakota. She will be laid to rest Monday October 19th at 1pm in Sioux Falls.

💜 THINK ABOUT IT THURSDAY 💜

Domestic violence doesn’t always leave a bruise.

Control. Threats. Isolation. Fear.
Abuse can take many forms — and it often happens behind closed doors.

This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, remember:

Everyone deserves to feel safe at home.

If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, always call 911. If you know of someone who is dealing with domestic abuse and they need resources, reach out to the Crime Victim Resource Center (CVRC) at 507-437-6680.

🦌 DEER COLLISION REMINDER 🚔

It’s that time of year again! As we move further into fall, drivers should be especially alert for deer crossing our roadways…YES, even in town. We took a fare amount of deer-car collisions last fall.

A few reminders from the Austin Police Department:

🦌 Be especially alert around dawn and dusk, when deer are most active.
👀 Scan both sides of the roadway, especially near wooded areas, fields, and deer crossing signs.
⚠️ If you see one deer, expect more. They often travel together.
🚗 Slow down and stay alert. Give yourself additional time to react.
💥 If a collision appears unavoidable, brake firmly and stay in your lane. Swerving can lead to a more serious crash.

And remember — the deer probably don’t have insurance. 😉

Stay alert. Slow down. Drive safe!

Happy Friday! We’ve unfortunately had a few close calls and violations since school has started with kids in crosswalks and people not caring to stop. This is very unfortunate and very unsafe behavior. Did you know that if someone goes through a crosswalk with a crossing guard in it with kids, they can be arrested? There are multiple state statutes with various levels of charges depending on the incident.

We understand construction has people annoyed. But it’s been there all summer. You know it’s there. Do your part, leave early and enjoy the “4th Street jam”😎 listen to your favorite music while in the stop and go traffic while remaining vigilant and safe!
Thank you and enjoy your weekend!
