After thoughtful consideration, candidate Ryan Allen has decided not to run in this election. Look for him behind the scenes in the months ahead as he continues to support the important effort to replace Lamar Smith.
His words below:
As you all know, I have been considering running for Congress in Texas’ 21st Congressional District for some time. I have spent the last few months educating myself in the process by trying to gauge my level of support, readiness and fitness to run for this office. After a heart-wrenching but valuable few weeks of considering what the right path forward would be, I have decided not to run in this election.
I came to this decision because I truly feel that our best chance to turn District 21 blue requires a level of readiness and organization that I would struggle to provide given my professional and family obligations. With all of the qualified candidates that have come forward to participate in this race, anything less than one hundred percent commitment to my candidacy would be a disservice to our collective effort to unseat Lamar Smith and elect a US Representative that will fight for the constituents in District 21.
I became interested in running for this office because of how much I care about my family’s future. I have decided not to run for the same reason. I am overwhelmed by the support that I have received, and I feel like I am well-positioned to run an incredible campaign in the future if the right one arises. In the meantime, I’m going to grow a beard, hang out with my wife and kids, support the other Democratic candidates in District 21 and beyond and look for ways to stay involved.
In that spirit, I plan to hold a fundraiser next spring for the Democratic nominee for District 21. To determine who that candidate will be, I encourage you all to attend the Race to Replace candidate forum on June 3 at the Historic Scoot Inn. Get to know the candidates and help determine who is going to represent us in Congress.
