Over the weekend, members participated in the Woodbridge Township MCI Bus Accident drill. Members worked alongside all Woodbridge Township fire departments, Perth Amboy and Rahway Fire Departments, Woodbridge Township EMS agencies and Woodbridge Police Department.

In the 2 day drill, members learned new stabilization techniques and extrication methods to meet the needs of an accident of this nature. A great job by Instructor Mike Daley and his crew as well as Woodbridge Township OEM, Deputy Chief Mark Minkler of the Woodbridge Fire Department and Sergeant Phil Agosta of the Woodbridge Police Department for putting this whole drill together.

The members of Avenel look forward to the next!

Congratulations to Firefighter Melissa Ristaino, who yesterday afternoon recieved the Mayors Volunteer Appreciation Award.

Firefighter Ristaino exemplifies the definition of being a volunteer in the community as well as being an amazing member of our department. Whether it's answering alarms day or night, representing our department at events in the township, being the first to answer a call when a task needs to be completed or just making everyone around her laugh, she always shows up, always gives 110% and does it no questions asked with a smile on her face.

We are truly honored to have a member like Melissa in our department and we couldn't be prouder of her for being recognized for all the mentioned above by the Mayor and his administration.

Congratulations again!

Continued thoughts and prayers to the injured officer for a speedy recovery!

Last night, one of our Executive Board Members was struck by a motor vehicle on Rt. 35 while attempting to get an individual who was in the roadway to safety. Our member sustained a fractured neck and back, a severe laceration to the head, and several scrapes and road rash to the face and arms.

He was rushed to RWJ New Brunswick where he is still undergoing treatment and testing.

We thank all those that reached out, it means a lot!

Fire Official Spillar and Deputy Fire Official Neroda attended a seminar sponsored by the Woodbridge Township Division of Aging, which focused on providing safety tips for the senior citizen residents of the town in the event of emergencies in their residences.

Great job by all township officials, fire department personnel and other township emergency service agencies presenting this great seminar.
