Yesterday afternoon (9-5-2026), the Avoca Fire Department was dispatched to the area of Kostner Drive and Pinion Drive in rural Benton County for a report of an outside fire. Multiple 911 callers were reporting a large brush fire with heavy smoke in the area. First arriving units from Avoca found an approximately 15 acre brush fire rapidly spreading in the area of Tomahawk Trail in rural Benton County. Avoca units requested mutual aid from Little Flock, NEBCO Fire-EMS, Pea Ridge Fire Department and the Arkansas Department of Agriculture Forestry Division. Units battled steep terrain, difficult access and outside temperatures in the low 100s but kept the fire contained to 27 acres in the woods with no damage to any structures. One firefighter was transported to a local hospital for heat exhaustion where they were treated and released. No civilian injuries occurred. Please remember that we are under a burn ban and do not burn! Conditions are prime for rapid fire spread.
