Avoca Volunteer Fire Department

Directions

Avoca Volunteer Fire Department Avoca VFD is an all volunteer Fire Department that serves 57.5 Square miles of Cass County and Otoe counties in Nebraska

The Avoca Fire Department was first established in March of 1914 and consisted soley of a double action cylinder pump and hose. This was the mainstay of fire protection until 1947 when the district was able to afford a modern day pump apparatus. Ever since, the department has continued grow and update its capabilities as our districts needs. The Avoca Fire Department continues to be a staple of Pride and Honor not only in our district but within the county as well. We look forward with anticipation to each new year and the challenges that it may bring.

Please be on the lookout for bicyclists traveling through the Avoca area during Gravel Worlds this weekend. If you're out driving, slow down, give riders plenty of room, and use extra caution on gravel roads and around hills or blind corners.

Let’s help keep everyone safe and give the riders a warm Avoca welcome!

We’re excited to add a new Rescue 42 Strut Kit to our equipment! These struts allow us to safely stabilize vehicles, buildings, and other unstable structures during emergencies. We'd like to give a huge thank you to the Jack Lewis Safety Fund for the grant that made this purchase possible at no additional cost to our taxpayers!

We’d also like to thank the students and staff at Metro Community College for repainting the top of our rescue truck black to match our fleet. The truck was purchased last year with funds raised through our annual Quack-Off Duck Races.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support our department and help us better serve our community!

A reminder from Cass County Emergency Management Agency! Every siren sounded should be considered a new threat. There will NOT be an all clear siren sounded.

This weekend, four of our members attended a Confined Space Rescue class along with members from Elmwood, Murray, Plattsmouth, Cass County EMA, and Syracuse. This was a great opportunity to learn some new skills and practice using our rope rescue equipment. On Saturday, we also got to tour the new OPPD plant and saw some examples of confined spaces on a job site.

Huge thanks to Murray Fire & Rescue for hosting and the Nebraska State Fire Marshal Training Division for teaching!
