💊 MEDICATION DROP-OFF REMINDER

The Avon Police Department is pleased to provide a medication collection box in our lobby vestibule as a convenient way for residents to safely dispose of unwanted or expired medications. We need everyone’s help, however, to make sure the collection box is being used properly.

The medication collection box is for PILLS ONLY.

We have recently seen an increase in needles, lancets, finger-prick devices, autoinjectors, and other sharps being mixed in with medications placed in the collection box. For everyone’s safety, these items should never be placed in the medication box. An approved sharps collection container is located on the wall immediately to the right of the medication collection box.

Liquid medications are also NOT accepted in the medication collection box. Liquid medications may be disposed of by mixing them with an undesirable substance such as cat litter or coffee grounds, sealing the mixture in a container or bag, and placing it in the household trash. Liquid medications may also be accepted during designated drug take-back events, and some local pharmacies may offer additional disposal options.

We also ask that residents please do not bring large or bulk quantities of medications for disposal. This service is intended for the disposal of reasonable quantities of unwanted or expired medications from individual households and is not intended for bulk disposal.

Following these guidelines helps protect the employees who handle and empty these containers and allows the Avon Police Department to continue providing this convenient disposal option to our community.

Thank you for helping us keep this program safe and available for everyone!
