The East Avon Chemical Hose Company was formed in August of 1926, when the VanZandt Hose Company donated chemical fire trucks to them. In 1939, the East Avon Volunteer Fire Department Incorporation was formed and still serves the Town of Avon, excluding the Village of Avon. The East Avon Fire Department works under the Part Town of Avon Fire District, covering approximately 38 square miles and 7,000 residents. The Department operates two pumpers, a rescue, a Quint, a support vehicle, Hazardous Materials Trailer and a Chief's truck, which run out of our two stations.

Yesterday, members of the East Avon Fire Department were invited to participate in a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) training exercise featuring a simulated bus crash. This hands-on scenario challenged responders to work through the complexities of a multi-patient emergency, requiring coordination, communication, and teamwork between fire and EMS personnel.

EAFD members were tasked with extricating the first two patients from the bus while other members provided EMS care inside the vehicle. Several of our Junior and RAM members also stepped into the role of patients, helping create a realistic training environment for everyone involved.

Exercises like this are invaluable in preparing our members to respond effectively when multiple patients are involved in a single incident. They allow responders to practice their skills, strengthen interagency coordination, and better understand the challenges of managing a large-scale emergency.

A huge thank you to Lima Volunteer Fire Department for the extensive planning, preparation, and coordination that went into making this training possible!

Last night, members of the East Avon Fire Department put their technical rescue skills to work with hands-on scenarios focused on lifting, stabilizing, and rescuing trapped victims.

Crews worked through multiple scenarios utilizing a variety of rescue equipment, including Holmatro struts, cable grip hoists, jacks, and cribbing. Members practiced selecting the appropriate equipment, establishing stable lifting and stabilization systems, and safely creating access to a trapped victim.

These exercises are designed to build confidence and reinforce the fundamentals of mechanical advantage, load control, stabilization, and patient rescue—skills that can make a critical difference when faced with a real-world emergency.

A big part of effective rescue work is being comfortable with the equipment before the call comes in.

This past weekend, the East Avon Fire Department and Avon, NY Fire Department came together to celebrate two incredible milestone anniversaries — 100 years of service for EAFD and 150 years of service for Avon Fire Department!

The celebration kicked off Saturday with a community event in town, where we showcased apparatus old and new and shared the rich history of both departments. Community members had the opportunity to meet our members, climb aboard the apparatus, and get an up-close look at the equipment we use to serve our community. The kids even joined in on the fun with a firefighter scavenger hunt while learning about the equipment and what we do!

We wrapped up the community event at the Pocket Park with remarks from Rob Hayes Mayor of Avon, NY, Supervisor Dave Lefeber, Assemblywoman Andrea Bailey, Senator Pam Helming, and Representative Jacob Gilbert-Mahoney from Governor Hochul’s office. Both departments were honored with proclamations and citations recognizing their many years of dedication, commitment, and service to the Avon community.

After the community celebration, members from both departments gathered back at EAFD for a well-deserved evening of dinner, dessert, yard games, and plenty of laughs. It was a great opportunity to celebrate not only our history, but the people who continue to carry that tradition forward.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped make this celebration possible:
• Avon Lions Club
• Connie for the ice cream
• Avon Police Department
• Lima Volunteer Fire Department
• Fire & Feast Catering Co.

And finally, the biggest thank you goes to the members of both the Avon and East Avon Fire Departments. Your dedication, sacrifice, and commitment to this community are what make these milestones possible. Here's to celebrating our history, honoring those who came before us, and continuing to serve our community for generations to come!

100 years of EAFD. 150 years of Avon Fire Department. One incredible community.

This past week, EAFD firefighters completed their month-long focus on vehicle rescue/extrication. With the many motor vehicle accidents that we respond to in our district, it is important we refresh on our skills several times a year. This also gave us an opportunity to introduce our Jr Members/RAM's to extrication practices.

To cap off the month, firefighters were presented with two vehicles needing stabilization before extrication efforts could commence. Once completed, simulated rescue efforts could begin in several disciplines, including the roof-roll of a vehicle on its side. The high heat and humidity added an extra layer of challenge. We are very proud of our members' commitment to bettering themselves in preparation to serve our residents.

Last night's training focused on auto extrication operations. Members responded to a simulated one-car rollover crash with the vehicle resting on its roof, a trapped driver, and unknown injuries.

Upon arrival, crews were assigned specific tasks to mirror real-world operations. Quad 276 was responsible for stabilizing the vehicle, while Engine 274 focused on patient care and extrication efforts. Working together, members practiced the coordinated approach needed to safely and efficiently remove a patient from a heavily damaged vehicle.

Following the initial scenario, members rotated through additional hands-on stations to gain more repetitions with vehicle stabilization techniques using struts and other equipment. Our Junior members also had the opportunity to work alongside our Chiefs, gaining valuable experience with extrication tools and practicing vehicle cutting techniques.

We had great weather last night for some driver and pump operator recertification training! It was also a great opportunity for our junior members to gain hands-on experience using different handlines and ground monitors, while learning about the various hydrant setups we can utilize on the fireground.

Throughout the training, we worked to maximize water supply output at both the hydrant and each operating line, helping ensure efficiency and effectiveness during emergency operations.

On Monday afternoon, EAFD members were dispatched to a camper fire in the village of Caledonia that was threatening a nearby garage and neighboring residence. Responding as FAST, crews arrived and immediately integrated into fireground operations.

Members assisted with suppression efforts in addition to their FAST duties, helping bring the fire under control, and remained on scene to support salvage and overhaul before being released.
