NBC4 investigation confirms LA Metro’s practice of having Sheriff’s deputies remove unhoused individuals from trains during the early morning hours, in the City of Azusa.
LA Metro says “Metro is a transit agency, not a homeless services agency…”
Well, Metro Board… Azusa is a City, not a homeless services agency… yet the City of Azusa has invested aggressively to help solve this problem that we face together.
We invest in our Azusa Resource Center, a 25-person interim shelter.
We invest additional resources through our Neighborhood Connections program, offering real life solutions and services.
We invest with officers who are constantly dealing with this problem that Metro is contributing to.
We are investing in these resourses every day, but enough is enough… this must stop here!
How are our cities supposed to make meaningful progress on homelessness when regional policies are contributing to the very problem we are trying to solve!?
On the backs of our taxpayers?
Metro, help us understand this question:
Where are these individuals supposed to go at that hour… and what happens when they are pushed into quiet, residential communities where residents are left to deal with the consequences?
Enough is enough.
LA Metro Board must take immediate action.
We need a coordinated regional approach that protects our communities while treating people with dignity and addressing homelessness at its source.

As always, these are my own personal thoughts.
