Fall Fire School 2026 registration is open!

Registration is open for Fall Fire School 2026 in North Powder! We will have tracks and courses for all experiences and skill levels, and have worked hard to keep costs low.

Saturday's classes include live high voltage safety demonstrations, wildland fire strategy and tactics instructed by ODF, and lithium battery response delivered by OSFM.

Sunday's classes have your choice of wildland fire strategy and tactics simulations built of the prior day's instruction, and full-scale wildland fire field response scenarios to help participants practice size-ups and initial attack tactical planning/assignments.

We hope to see you there!!!

BAKER CITY — As Christy Little drove into Bourne on Sept. 5 she feared that this place in the woods, so familiar and so beloved, would seem strange. She needn’t […]

It’s drill night!

Tonight, our volunteers had the opportunity to practice “drafting,” which is an important skill particularly for rural fire agencies that don’t have access to pressurized hydrants. Drafting is the process of pulling water from a source (like a pond, river or portable drop tank) into a fire engine pump.

Did you know that BRFPD volunteers train twice a month to stay up-to-date on proper techniques and also to ensure proficiency and mitigate risk?

When the McCully Fire ignited north of Sumpter, Baker Rural Fire assisted with structure protection operations in the town of Bourne.

Wildfires don't recognize jurisdictional boundaries, and neither does our commitment to serving our communities. We're grateful for the opportunity to stand shoulder to shoulder with our fellow firefighters and emergency responders, demonstrating the strength of teamwork and mutual aid.

There have been two illegal fires in Baker County in the past 48 hours.

Let’s be absolutely clear: WE ARE STILL UNDER EXTREME FIRE DANGER AND THE BURN BAN IS IN EFFECT.

This is NOT the time to burn. Not a burn pile. Not trash. Not brush. Not “just a small fire.”

🔥 DO NOT BURN. PERIOD.

Under these conditions, a fire can escape quickly and spread out of control, putting homes, property, wildlife, and firefighters at risk.

Please take the burn ban seriously. One careless decision can have devastating consequences for our entire community.

If you see someone burning illegally, report it.

Baker County: Do your part. Follow the burn ban. Prevent a wildfire. 🚫🔥

Yesterday, Congressman Cliff Bentz held a Wildfire Work Session at the Baker County Fairgrounds, Conference, & Event Center.

Ranchers and Rangeland Fire Protection Association volunteers were frank about the shortcomings they encountered on the Powder River and Fox Fires when it came to communication, fire-fighting tactics and lack of resources.

Chief Sean Lee voiced his concerns, sharing that Baker Rural Fire offered to respond for structure protection multiple times but was turned down repeatedly by the fire management team.

In times of crisis, standing idly by is not an option. We believe protecting our community's livelihoods and resources is a priority.

Baker Rural would like to thank the dispatchers at the Baker County Sheriff's Office for their generous donation!

This incredible group came up with the idea to create a care package with all the goodies and deliver it to our station.

If you've ever had to dial 911, you know every single one of these dispatchers is top tier. Their professionalism and generosity are unmatched.

We are grateful for your partnership. Thank you from all of us!
