Wind Wolves Preserve The 93,000-acre Wind Wolves Preserve is one of 25 preserves in The Wildlands Conservancy.
(551)

Wind Wolves Preserve is in an ecologically unique region where the Transverse Ranges, Coast Ranges, Sierra Nevada, western Mojave Desert and San Joaquin Valley influences converge. Due to elevation ranges from 640 to 6,005 feet, the Preserve has an impressive array of landforms and habitats that serve as a critical landscape linkage and wildlife corridor between the Coast Ranges and Sierra Nevada. On the valley floor, the Preserve is a 30-square-mile sea of grassland with remnant stands of saltbush. These grasslands are home to the endangered San Joaquin kit fox and blunt-nosed leopard lizard as well as one of the largest stands of the endangered Bakersfield cactus. Rolling grasslands rise from the valley floor, transitioning into classic California blue oak and valley oak savanna with extensive riparian wetlands. The oak savanna ascends into juniper and pinyon forests that vault into stands of ponderosa pine and big cone spruce. Wind Wolves Preserve has a rich cultural history, serving as the home of the Emigdiano Chumash for hundreds of years before the land became a ranch through the San Emigdio Land Grant. Colorful Chumash paintings have survived the decades and are among the most noteworthy rock art in North America.

Slow down. Breathe in. Behold the Beauty.

Join us for a Forest Bathing: Sunrise Meditation at Wind Wolves Preserve.

Inspired by the Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku, forest bathing invites us to slow down, engage our senses, and reconnect with the natural world. Rather than a traditional hike, this is an opportunity to pause, notice, listen, and simply be present in the landscape as the day begins. We will meet at the Crossing Parking Lot and then drive together to the Willows - late arrivals and early departures will NOT be permitted. Please plan to arrive 10-15 minutes for check in.

Date: Saturday, September 26
Time: 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM
Location: Wind Wolves Preserve - The Crossing Parking Lot

Recommended for ages 16+. Space is limited and reservations are REQUIRED. Reserve your spot at the link below. https://secure.qgiv.com/for/windwolvespreserveevents/event/wwp-forest-bathing-09-26-2026/

HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH: WEAVING WORKSHOP

Join us for a FREE, hands-on weaving workshop exploring the traditions of plant-based basket weaving and the relationship between people, plants, and the natural world.

We’ll begin with a short presentation about how plants have been gathered and used for basket weaving across Hispanic and Latin American traditions, exploring the materials, techniques, and knowledge passed down through generations. Then it’s your turn to weave! While traditional baskets are made with plant materials, we’ll be using yarn to learn and practice basic weaving techniques - and create a woven square to take home.

Kids and adults are welcome!
