Last week we marked a historic victory for the veterans who have served our country so valiantly. After 17 years of extensive delays, Kern County finally has a state-of-the-art VA clinic truly worthy of their sacrifice. This modern, $40 million facility will completely replace the outdated, inadequate Westwind Drive location, which has long struggled to meet patient demand. Crucially, it ends the exhausting, six-hour round-trip drives to Los Angeles for specialty medical care, ensuring our local heroes receive the treatment they need right here at home. Heartfelt thanks to VA Secretary Doug Collins, Congressman Vince Fong, and Congressman David Valadao for fighting to deliver this long-awaited milestone. County of Kern, California

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central California is excited to begin a new chapter in Kern County and bring the life-changing power of mentorship to even more young people.

A special thank you to Mayor Karen Goh, Supervisor for District 3; Jeff Flores, and President of the Kern County Asian Chamber; Vivian Cao for an incredible visit and for welcoming us as we begin building meaningful connections and partnerships within the Kern County community. Together with Kern County, we’re creating new opportunities for mentorship, connection, and hope because sometimes, having one caring adult show up can change the direction of a young person’s life.

It’s an investment in potential. It’s a commitment to our youth. And it’s the beginning of something BIG. We are honored to bring the power of mentoring to more young people in Kern County and look forward to all that we can accomplish BIGGER TOGETHER.

🏢✨ Investing in Local Businesses and Stronger Communities

Supervisor Flores spearheaded the KernBiz Façade Improvement Grant Program, a first-of-its-kind initiative designed to help local businesses make important exterior improvements. Through matching grants, businesses were able to invest in upgrades such as:

✅ Security fencing
✅ Security cameras
✅ Exterior improvements and general aesthetics

The KernBiz Façade Improvement Grant Program concludes on September 30, 2026, and three District 3 projects have been completed.

We are proud to have supported improvements at NJY LLC, Wattenbarger’s Do It Center, and TJM Distribution.

These investments help create cleaner, safer, and more welcoming places to shop, work, and do business. Supporting our local businesses remains one of Supervisor Flores’s top priorities.

✈️ I’m excited to announce a new $1.9 million investment in our county airport at Meadows Field!

These funds will support important infrastructure upgrades as we prepare to take our airport to the next level. In August, we added direct service to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), with even more exciting developments on the horizon.

I look forward to seeing Meadows Field continue to grow and become a major travel hub for the Central Valley. Thank you to BakersfieldNow for covering this story.

Meadows Field Airport is set to receive a nearly $2 million federal grant as officials plan for long-term growth and upgrades.
