🚗 The weekend is here ‼️

As you head out to enjoy your weekend remember to slow down, obey posted speed limits, and always designate a sober driver. Leave plenty of space between vehicles, stay focused on the road, and put the cellphones down.

Your choice behind the wheel matter. Also, remember we share the road with motorcycles, bicyclists, and pedestrians. 🚲🏍️

Arrive alive and make it home safely!

🚗 Driving through the Kern Canyon? Slow down, stay in your lane, and expect the unexpected ‼️

The winding roadway, limited sight distance and narrow lanes leave little room for error. Never cross the double yellow lines or attempt an unsafe pass. Give yourself plenty of following distance, watch for oncoming traffic, and remember getting there is more important than getting there quickly.

Child Passenger Safety Week ‼️

The CHP is dedicated to promoting child passenger safety and ensuring every child is correctly secured during every trip. National Child Passenger Safety Week focuses on educating parents and caregivers about the importance of proper car seats and providing the right fit for a child’s age, weight, and height.

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children in the U.S., but proper use of child safety seats significantly reduces the risk of injury and fatality. The CHP offers free car seat inspections and hands-on training year-round, with trained experts available to assist.

California Law:

✅Under 2 years: Must ride in a rear-
facing car seat unless they weigh 40
pounds or are 40+ inches tall.

✅ Under 8 years old: Must ride in a car
seat or booster seat in the back seat.

✅8 years or older, or 4’9” or taller: If a
child meets all the requirements of the
5-Step test then they may ride in a seat
belt without a booster seat.

✅ Drivers can be fined over $500 and get
a point on their driving record for each
unbuckled child under 16.
