Much of the central and northern North Carolina mountains and higher foothills experienced freezing temperatures Sunday morning, October 18, and this likely ended the growing season for that area. Therefore our frost-freeze program has been deactivated in that area, and we will no longer issue Frost Advisories or Freeze Watches/Warnings in those zones until Spring 2027. This map depicts the deactivated area in gray. Orange and red colors show where the program remains active, either until a freeze occurs or the default date is reached (see legend on map).

Make sure to secure any outdoor decor as gusty winds develop Friday into Saturday. Lighter winds return by late Saturday evening but low-end gusts should linger east of the mountains through Sunday.
