Mitchell County Public Transportation Authority Serving the citizens of Mitchell County with all their transportation needs since 1976. MCTA is a public transportation system founded in 1976.

We operate Monday - Friday 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. Additional hours if needed. Saturday and Sunday transportation is available. We receive Federal, State and Local funding, along with revenues collected from contracting agencies and passenger fares.

On Tuesday, Aug. 25th, the Transportation Advisory Board (TAB) met in person for the first time since Helene. Since September 2024, the Mitchell County Public Transportation Department has had no transit facility. The TAB has held its quarterly meetings online. The board would like to express its gratitude to Blue Ridge Regional for allowing us to use the Keith Holtzclaw Board Room. After the meeting, the board took time to look over two of the five new vehicles received this summer. If you would like information on Mitchell County Transportation, call 828-688-4715. Veterans may ride free, thanks to a grant received by the Mitchell County Veterans Office located in Ledger. Mitchell County Transportation will hold our quarterly TAB meeting on August 25th at 10:30 in the Keith Holtzclaw Board Room at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. Anyone desiring to attend or speak to our board may do so by calling 828-688-4715 or by emailing [email protected]. Ask for Director Sheila Blalock to be added to the agenda for public comment. Please notify by 12:00 noon on Aug. 24th.
