A HUGE thank you to everyone who came out for our Friends of the Library Brunch this morning! This brunch was a special opportunity to celebrate all the amazing work our Friends of the Balch Springs Library do for the community. The Friends are devoted to enhancing the library’s services to its community. Their mission includes, but isn’t limited to, promoting the library and encouraging public support. A few of the services the Friends provide the library include:

📕Enriching our Summer Reading Program

Join us at the Balch Springs Library on Tuesday, October 27th at 4:30 PM for this fun, hands-on program that will encourage creativity and collaboration. Teens, channel your inner artist and join us at the Balch Springs Library on Tuesday, October 20th at 5 PM to create a mini ghost portrait! This program is for teens in grades 8-12. Participation is limited, while supplies last.

Do you love haunted houses, monsters, psychological thrillers, and things that go bump in the night? Join us for a Horror Book Tasting on October 19th at 5:30 PM where you’ll sample a variety of frightening reads – from classic horror to modern supernatural tales!

This Horror Book Tasting is a fun way to allow adults discover new horror authors, hidden gems, or their next great read. This free adult program will have limited space, so please register by email to [email protected]

Calling all romance readers! The Balch Springs Library has just the book club for you. Join us this Saturday, October 17th as we discuss our first read of Romance Book Club, Funny Story by Emily Henry. There will be a limited number of copies of the next selected title provided for those in attendance. This program is for adults 18+ and will meet at Seven Mile Cafe in Mesquite for the October meeting.

Curious about the world of the paranormal? Join Deborah Rose of DCR Enterprises this Monday, October 12 at 5 PM for an introduction to ghost hunting at the Balch Springs Library! Deborah will discuss the history and methods of paranormal investigations, share real-life experiences from the field, and explain how investigators gather and evaluate evidence during an investigation.

Participants will also enjoy a live demonstration of the specialized equipment commonly used in paranormal research, including the purpose and function of each tool. Whether you're a skeptic, a believer, or simply fascinated by the unknown, this interactive presentation offers a unique opportunity to learn about the science, techniques, and mysteries behind ghost hunting!

Calling all kids! Join us at the library on October 15 at 11 AM for this hands-on STEAM program designed to encourage creativity and instruction-based learning. Participants will have the opportunity to create their very own popsicle stick catapult. This program is for children in grades K-3. Participation is limited, while supplies last.
