FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 23, 2026

At approximately 11:19 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 100 block of North Second Street in reference to an unknown medical call. Upon arrival, officers determined that an 82-year-old female had sustained severe burns as the result of a kitchen accident.

Fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene and determined that air transport was necessary. A LifeStar air ambulance landed at the practice field west of Baldwin Junior High School to transport the patient to a burn unit in the Kansas City area.

As a precaution during the landing and departure, Baldwin Junior High School and Baldwin High School were placed on a soft lockdown, and 6th Street was temporarily closed to traffic. Once LifeStar departed, 6th Street was reopened and both schools resumed normal operations.

We would like to thank the public, school staff, and our emergency response partners for their patience and cooperation.
