For 77 years, Our Lady of Pompei / St. Peter's Church have brought people together for the annual Election Day Spaghetti Supper. It’s a special tradition where public servants from across the political spectrum can share a meal, visit with one another, and show that civility matters.
The supper is made possible by the many volunteers who give their time—from the parish and school community to the clergy—all to support the parish. What many people may not know is that, from the early 1980s through the 2000s, students at Our Lady of Pompei were among those volunteers.
I was one of them.
I remember cleaning trays, emptying garbage, sweeping floors, wiping tables, and restocking the Parmesan cheese. I loved volunteering and meeting the public servants who came through the line, including Bill Magnarelli, John DeFrancisco, Michael Bragman, and former County Executive, the Honorable Nick Pirro, just to name a few. Nick Pirro made a lasting impression on me and helped inspire my desire to give back to my community.
I was volunteering as a student from third grade through seventh grade. Although the school has since closed, the parish continues to find a way to bring in young people from other schools to serve and give back to the community. Each year, I get to see them carrying on that tradition.
It is so special to return as an adult and public servant to a place filled with memories, emotions, and friendships I made during my school years—friendships I’m grateful to still have today. I’ve also been able to bring my children to the supper each year, and they look forward to it just as much as I do. I’m already looking forward to sharing another year of this wonderful tradition with them.

God is great. May God bless you all. 🙏
