Two of our firefighters are being interviewed Tuesday 10/20 by channel 13 about fire prevention etc. for fire prevention month. Jeremy wood from west Charlton FD and Justin smith from harmony corners FD. I can’t say enough about these two, they are very hard working individuals, yet always make time for their fire departments, showing up to most fire calls, fire meetings and drills. Justin and Jeremy are always there to help people in their community. And Tuesday they will be representing our town and our fire departments. Thank you both for all you do.

And a truly amazing presentation, explaining what the foundation offers , how Gary sinise started the foundation etc. we want to thank the volunteers whose names are in the pics below. Just a great group of people bringing Gary’s vision to life, making a difference by supporting our military, firefighters and more by helping them to get what they need to to support our community. Thanks to everyone who came. All of our local fire departments were there, as you will see in pics below with captions included.

Last night ( Tuesday 9/29) I had the great opportunity to observe a ‘live fire’ training exercise with West Charlton Fire Dept. and Harmony Corners Fire Dept.
Special thanks to West Charlton’s Chief Martin for the invitation. Live fire training was at the County fire training facility behind the Saratoga county animal shelter. Professional Instructors from Calderwood Training set up a training exercise in the training building you will see in the pics. Not every firefighter has experienced a live fire, so this training gives them the opportunity to experience that in a controlled environment led by these professional trainers. And, the experienced Class A Interior FFs at each department, fulfilled their annual required OSHA training on wearing their airpacks (SCBA). The lower level of the building is set on fire with pallets and hay in a certain area. Then firefighters set up in teams and enter the building as if they were entering a house fire. Trainers are inside leading the training exercise pointing out areas of importance, how the fire chooses its path, certain things to do with the fire hose to knock down the fire quickly before it spreads and gain control and Using thermal imaging cameras that can sense heat in the walls which usually means there is fire there and can even show an outline of a victim through the thick smoke. The temperature showed almost 1,200 degrees F at the hottest part of fire in the room! The FFs were a few feet away where the temps were about 700 degrees F.
I learned that gases you can’t see are also extremely hot and can ignite with the introduction of air. These trainers were amazing! They even took time to educate me on what was happening and why, I was accompanied by a trainer while shooting close to the building. Watching these firefighters train for hours so they can better help us when we are in need, truly warmed my heart and seeing them in action makes me feel confident and safe in our little town that they know exactly what to do. Lots of camaraderie with these two Fire departments!

Another great chicken bbq! The rain didn’t slow anyone down as you can see. Unfortunately I didn’t get the inside crew as we got very busy. Everyone worked together and had fun making it a very successful bbq . Thanks you everyone who volunteered to help and for everyone who came out to support our fire department.
