If your home was built before 1978, it may contain lead-based paint, even if it looks clean and well kept. Whether you rent or own, getting your home inspected for lead is one of the most important steps you can take to protect your family’s health. Lead can hide in peeling paint, dust, and soil, and children are especially vulnerable.

Know your home. Reduce the risk. Stay lead-safe. 💛

A blood lead test is the only way to know if your child has been exposed to lead! Talk to your child’s healthcare provider about getting tested. Early detection makes a difference.

Children under 6 are especially vulnerable to lead exposure, and lead poisoning often shows no visible symptoms. Even low levels of lead can affect brain development, learning, and behavior. Talk to your child’s health care provider about a simple blood lead test to help protect their health and future.

Healthy Habits Start in the Kitchen! Getting kids involved in the kitchen can encourage them to try fruits and vegetables and build healthy eating habits. A balanced diet can also play a role in lead poisoning prevention. When children get enough iron and calcium, their bodies may absorb less lead. Foods rich in vitamin C can also help the body absorb iron.

👩‍🍳 Cook together. 🥦 Eat well. ❤️ Help protect your family from lead exposure!

This September, celebrate National Fruits and Veggies Month by inviting your kids into the kitchen to help prepare healthy meals. When children learn to wash fresh produce, tear up greens, or cut their favorite fruits with a kid-safe knife, it helps them build positive attitudes for fruits and vegetables.
