Earlier this week I attended the ribbon-cutting for the grand opening of the new Series 3000 Cyber Range at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. Donated by BCR Cyber, the cyber range will provide students with real world cyber security training scenerios. This hands on experience will prepare our students for job opportunities in both our local private and government sectors.

Thank you to Rev. Al Hathaway and the wonderful people at the Juanita Jackson Mitchell Law Center for hosting a tour of their newly renovated building. Located in West Baltimore's Upton neigbhorhood, the law center will serve as the home of the University of Maryland-Baltimore's ROAR Center which provides community-based free legal and social services. What a wonderful way to honor one of Baltimore's great civil rights pioneers.

Baltimore lost a great one this week. Former Raven and CFL Stallion O.J. Brigance touched so many lives through his work with the Brigance Brigade Foundation, whose mission is to equip, encourage and empower those like himself afflicted with ALS. He left an indelible mark on this community just by showing up every day. My thoughts are with his wife Chanda, his extended family and all those who were inspired by O.J. on and off the field.

Local Progress held its annual National Convening in Baltimore this year. I joined Baltimore City Council President Zeke Cohen and School Board Commissioner Ashley Esposito for an opening panel discussing building community and reflecting on the convening's theme, "Fearless Leadership, Joyful Liberation." Mayor Brandon Scott also spoke at this year's event.

Local Progress continues to serve as an important movement of local elected officials advancing a racial and economic justice agenda.

The red pandas are here! The Maryland Zoo officially opened its new red panda exhibit this weekend, with the two new furry friends making their home in Baltimore's Druid Hill Park. Summer is a perfect time to get out and welcome these two new residents to our community!
