“Our streets were engineered for drivers passing through, leaving the people who actually live and visit here to fight for survival on the sidewalks and crosswalks.
Since spring 2025, neighbors have counted traffic around the clock from windows along ten Mount Vernon blocks. The streets turned out to be carrying a fraction of the traffic they were built for, causing drivers to routinely break the speed limit past our front doors.
By reclaiming our streets for people, we can reduce congestion, pollution, and crashes while strengthening community life, local businesses, and safety.”
