Outward Bound Chesapeake Bay We spark lifelong growth through challenge—outside.

Outward Bound is an international educational movement dedicated to the idea that people are capable of far more than they know. Originally designed by educator Kurt Hahn in 1941 to prepare young Britons to face the challenges of World War II, whether on the home front or in the uniformed services, the program fostered leadership qualities that were especially needed for those in the Merchant Marine whose ships were "Outward Bound," headed to the high seas on the treacherous North Atlantic run. Now, in over 30 countries on six continents, Outward Bound schools prepare people to take on challenges and achieve more than they ever thought possible.

One of our long time Baltimore City partners, Hampstead Hill Academy!

For over a decade, Hampstead Hill Academy students and educators have come ready to take on challenges of the trail and river, building confidence and new skills to thrive.

We are grateful for a partnership rooted in growth, discovery, and showing up - year after year!

Impact in action with Baltimore Montessori Public Charter School!

We are grateful to have partnered with BMPCS for over seven years to spark student growth through challenge outside. We believe we can do more for students together.

And most importantly, we’re proud of the students who come out each year, lean into adventure, and support each other along the way. To all of the BMPCS students headed on program this week - we’re excited for the experiences you will build together. You got this!

Our dynamo tower is officially upright! The Signature Research team pre-assembled this tower horizontally before using two cranes to lift it up and position it securely in the ground, which is what you're seeing here. Are you ready to climb it?

Time for some quick math…

Twenty years of Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Va. expeditions means over 1,600 EHS first year students, alongside Episcopal educators, laying the groundwork for their years ahead. Around 200 crews hiking and paddling thousands of miles, over 4,000 tortillas eaten, countless moments where students came together in support of one another on the trail, building skills for school and life. It’s a legacy that we are proud to be a part of.

To this year’s first years who just completed their 2026 Burch Expedition, we’re celebrating you! Congratulations on taking big steps forward together on the trail and river.
