Pride of Baltimore II America's Star-Spangled Ambassador PRIDE OF BALTIMORE II is a reconstruction of an early 19th-century Baltimore Clipper.

These sleek, fast, and maneuverable vessels became famous as privateers during the War of 1812. Their success in capturing British merchant ships inspired the Royal Navy’s attack on Baltimore in 1814. When Francis Scott Key saw the American flag still flying after the all-night bombardment of Fort McHenry, he was inspired to pen the “Star-Spangled Banner.”

"The awards ceremony was full of humor and good cheer. Another testament to the community spirit of the Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race that has spanned more than three & a half decades. A dramatic celebration of the wonder of the Chesapeake Bay. Both PRIDE & VIRGINIA are two of its “queens,” representing the two states that bound the Bay. And are clearly benefited by the Bay."

In his latest Captain’s Log, Captain Jan Miles reflects on PRIDE II’s participation in The Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race, from the light winds & shortened course to the tactical challenges that shaped the race against VIRGINIA.

Good morning! Overnight the race course was shortened by the Race Committee — PRIDE II will now finish at Smith Point. Smith Point is at the southern entrance of the Potomac River & is home to a historic caisson lighthouse built in 1897 that stands about 2.5 miles east-southeast offshore.
