Burglary Suspect Apprehended Following Multi-Agency Response in Passadumkeag.

On October 10, 2026, at approximately 10:45 p.m., dispatch advised Penobscot County deputies of a burglary at a residence on Main Road in the town of Passadumkeag.

The caller reported that her ex-boyfriend had broken into the residence through a window. The suspect fled the scene prior to deputies’ arrival. He was also subject to active bail conditions prohibiting him from being at the residence or having contact with the victim.

Upon arrival, deputies heard movement in the woods and tracked the individual. The suspect was ultimately located across the river on an island, where a kayak was also found.

Deputies attempted to make contact with the suspect, identified as Nicholas Violette, 25, of Chester. Violette did not respond.

When Violette failed to comply with commands to surrender, assistance was requested. The Lincoln Police Department deployed a drone to the scene, the Old Town Police Department provided a canine unit for apprehension, and the Maine Warden Service responded with a boat and game wardens.

As the drone flew overhead, Violette surrendered. The arrest team crossed the small waterway and took Violette into custody without incident.

Violette was charged with burglary and violation of conditional release.

We thank our law enforcement partners at the Maine Warden Service, the Old Town Police Department, and the Lincoln Police Department for their assistance. This incident is a strong example of law enforcement agencies working together to safely apprehend suspects.

From Protecting and Serving to Stirring and Tasting!

Penobscot County Deputies stopped by the Carmel Union Congregational Church for their annual peanut brittle-making day, trading their usual duties for a little stirring, sampling, and sweet community spirit!

All jokes aside, we’re grateful to the church for continuing to invite us to be part of this wonderful tradition. Events like these are a great reminder that serving our community goes beyond the badge — it’s about building relationships, sharing smiles, and being part of what makes our communities special

Update on fatal Plymouth crash.

On 9/30/2026, at 6:39 pm Kendall Thompson, 67 and Patricia Thompson, 68 of Dixmont, were driving their Chrysler sedan eastbound on Route 7 near Plymouth Pond.

A Hyundai Santa Cruz operated by Timothy Malo, 69 of Newport, was traveling westbound.

An early investigation indicates Malo's vehicle crossed the center line and struck the Thompson's vehicle in the eastbound lane. As a result of the crash, both vehicles left the roadway and came to rest in Plymouth Pond.

All three occupants were transported to the hospital, sadly Mrs. Thompson passed away from her injuries sustained during the crash.

This investigation is ongoing, and a review will be conducted to determine what charges will be filed in this investigation.

Penobscot County Sheriff's Office partners with Sheriffs across the state to acknowledge Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), a time to recognize the lives impacted by domestic violence, honor those we have lost, celebrate survivors, and remind victims that they are not alone. It is also an opportunity to raise awareness, strengthen support, and bring our communities together in the effort to end domestic violence.

The Maine Sheriffs’ Association remains committed to reducing domestic violence and protecting those affected through our shared mission: “Protecting Victims, Strengthening Communities.”
We are proud of the work our Association has accomplished in bringing Maine VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday) to our state. Through this important partnership, victims and witnesses have access to confidential electronic notifications regarding an offender’s custody status, helping ensure they remain informed and aware of important changes.

We recognize that awareness must be matched with action, collaboration, and a continued commitment to those who need our support.

Together, we stand with survivors. Together, we protect victims. Together, we work toward safer communities.

THE MAINE VINE LINK can also be found through the inmate search portion of our mobile app.

Purpose, Awareness, Connection, and Education (PACE)

Purpose, Awareness, Connection, and Education (PACE) is a true correctional diversion program designed to hold sentenced individuals accountable while providing them with a meaningful educational and rehabilitative experience.

Since its inception, PACE has served nearly 500 participants. Because of space limitations, the program has often been conducted in rented facilities throughout the greater Bangor area. Despite those limitations, the program has demonstrated tremendous success in connecting individuals with proven local programs and community resources. To date, there have been zero incidents of participants failing to return to programming.

With an appropriately sized and dedicated space, we believe PACE has significant potential for continued growth. The program provides the criminal justice system with another meaningful option when determining how to address sentences for individuals who have been convicted of an offense. It represents true correctional diversion, an opportunity for cost savings, and a productive approach to incarceration for sentenced individuals.

During the most recent program, 15 individuals participated, and several members of the District Attorney’s Office took the opportunity to visit and see firsthand the impact PACE can have. Their involvement provided an opportunity to demonstrate how structured correctional programming can promote accountability while also connecting individuals with education, resources, and positive pathways forward.

Our educational liaison and correctional programming team continue to evaluate the program and brainstorm ways to expand PACE to meet the evolving needs of today’s correctional system.

Our mission is to operate a safe, secure, and humane correctional facility. Achieving that mission requires recognizing and addressing the complex circumstances individuals bring with them when they enter our custody. Appropriate facilities and dedicated programming space would provide us with greater opportunities to meet many of the needs we have identified.

PACE demonstrates what can be accomplished when accountability, education, community connection, and effective correctional programming come together. With the appropriate resources and space, we believe this program can become an even greater asset to the criminal justice system and the communities we serve.

Public Safety will not contact you asking for funds.

No law enforcement agency or correctional facility at any level will call, text, email, or message you demanding payment for bail, fines, fees, pretrial services, or other alleged costs.

Public safety agencies across Maine continue to receive reports of these scams and are warning the public.

Scammers may change their story, but their goal remains the same: to get your money. They may demand payment through gift cards, bank transfers, payment apps, cryptocurrency, or other financial platforms.

These scammers often use fear, urgency, and threats of arrest or other enforcement action to pressure victims into making immediate payments.

Sadly, people continue to fall victim.

PLEASE HELP US SHARE THIS IMPORTANT MESSAGE:
PUBLIC SAFETY WILL NEVER CONTACT YOU DEMANDING PAYMENTS FOR ANY SERVICES.

A LIVING PIECE OF AMERICAN HISTORY

This past week, the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office had the honor of escorting and visiting the Dunlap Broadside of the Declaration of Independence—one of only 26 surviving copies of the original 1776 printing.

Standing in the presence of a document that represents the birth of our nation is difficult to put into words. For those of us entrusted with protecting our communities, it carries an even deeper meaning.

The Sheriff is the only law enforcement office specifically recognized in the United States Constitution. That connection to our nation’s founding makes the opportunity to see this historic document especially meaningful.

On behalf of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, thank you to the Portland Historical Society for bringing this remarkable piece of American history to communities across all 16 Maine counties and giving Mainers the opportunity to see it firsthand.

We don’t just protect the communities we serve—we have a responsibility to understand and honor the history and principles that created the country we serve.
