HAVE YOU RETURNED YOUR BALLOT YET?

As of October 21 at 9:36 AM, the Oregon Secretary of State reports 155,137 ballots returned statewide, representing just 4.98% of active registered voters.

Oregon voters can return their completed ballots directly to an official ballot drop box rather than mailing them. Drop boxes are available until 8 PM on Election Day, November 3.

Agrivoltaics (noun): A way to save Oregon farmers 🌱☀️

Last week, I had the opportunity to tour a farm utilizing agrivoltaics and see firsthand how this innovative approach is creating new opportunities for Oregon agriculture.

Oregon’s family farms face rising costs and tight margins. Agrivoltaics lets them keep farming while adding a steady energy income stream.

These systems place solar panels on the same land used for crops or grazing. Panels are typically elevated or mounted on driven piles (not large concrete pads), so they can be removed later and the land returned to full agricultural use without permanent damage.

Key advantages:
• Keeps over 90% of the land in active agricultural production while adding energy income
• Can reduce water use and improve yields for certain crops
• Supports grazing (especially sheep) under the panels
• Improves solar panel efficiency as plants help keep panels cooler

Oregon State University research is already showing strong results here at home. Multi-use land is a practical way to help struggling Oregon farms stay viable.

Today, October 9, is Oregon Youth Su***de Awareness Day.

Our young people face challenges that aren’t always visible, and sometimes those who are struggling the most are the ones who say the least.

As a mother and a member of this community, I believe we all have a responsibility to look out for our youth, listen when they need someone to talk to, and make sure they know they are valued, supported, and never alone.

A simple conversation, a check-in, or taking the time to listen can make a difference.
