***UPDATE*** We have made contact with some of the employees involved in these sales. They have been advised to leave people's properties when requested, and have a valid State of Maine permit. They will be in the area until 9/4. If they refuse to leave your property when told, contact us if you need assistance. Thank you!

-----

We have received reports of people of various descriptions selling solar panels and asking homeowners if they can view their electric bill. When asked to leave, these people have been aggressive and persistent, and some have returned later.

If you find yourself being bothered or harassed by door to door salespeople who refuse to leave or return without permission, it is important to call us as soon as you can. It is helpful to call while they are still there, or when they have just left if that feels safer. Taking down plate and/or vehicle information, or obtaining photos and videos also helps, though we know this is not always possible.

The sooner we are aware of an issue, the sooner we can hopefully make contact with the parties involved.

Please call 207-288-3391 for Bar Harbor dispatch and 207-276-5111 for Mount Desert dispatch.

Officers Keene and Payson (visited by parking enforcement) assisted with the security details surrounding this national treasure: the Declaration of Independence tour. This document is one of only 26 surviving copies printed on July 4, 1776 and was hosted for display at the Abbe Museum here in Bar Harbor on Friday and Saturday on its tour through every county in Maine, in honor of the United States of America's 250th anniversary. (Learn more here: https://www.mainehistory.org/revolutionary-maine/declaration-of-independence-tour-schedule/ ) The document was visited and appreciated by many visitors, and kept safe during its stay in town - we're happy to report no sightings of Nicolas Cage.

Do you know my parents? I was found wandering the Tennis Club Rd. in Northeast Harbor. I am currently eating snacks at the Bar Harbor station. My microchip did not have owner information but I am a white and yellow spotted (female) Chihuahua. You can call 207-288-3391 if you have information about the owners!

** The owner was located. Thanks, everyone. **

These two black labs were found near the Mount Desert Island High School. If anyone knows the owner or how to locate them, the dogs are currently at the Bar Harbor Police Department. 207-288-3391

"WHERE CAN I PARK?"

Parking in town is a challenge on the 4th of July.

To avoid the congestion, consider using public transportation. Island Explorer runs throughout the day, including after the fireworks, and is an excellent option: https://www.exploreacadia.com/july4.html

Parking on the 4th is free. Vehicles may park in all "Permit Parking Only" areas on the 4th, with or without a permit. However, be mindful not to block driveways or hydrants, and do not park in yellow zones- towing is likely for infractions that block the flow of traffic or prevent use of private through ways. Park with the flow of traffic, not against it, for the safety of yourself and others.

Be advised that the Newport Lot will be closed at noon and vehicles still on site at that time will be towed at the owner's expense.

Parking or driving on the sand bar to Bar Island is always discouraged. On the 4th, the sand bar will be blocked from use as a parking location to prevent vehicle submersion.

Parade road closures begin at 9:45 a.m. for Main St, Cottage St, Eden St, Mt. Desert St, Ledgelawn Ave. No civilian vehicles will be allowed to enter or exit these streets until the parade route is reopened.

See our website for more details: https://www.bhmdpoliceme.gov/july-4th.html
