🦌 HUNTER & TREE STAND SAFETY 🦌
As hunting season gets underway, Nelson County Fire & Rescue wants to remind all hunters to make safety your first priority.
Every year, we respond to hunters who have fallen from tree stands and suffered serious injuries. Many of these accidents can be prevented with a few simple safety steps:
🌲 Inspect your tree stand BEFORE you climb.
🔩 Make sure all straps, cables, bolts, platforms, and supports are secure and in good working order.
🌳 Be sure your stand and tree are capable of safely supporting you.
🦺 Always wear a properly fitted safety harness/fall-arrest system while hunting from an elevated stand.
⬆️ Use a safe method to climb into and out of your stand, and maintain three points of contact whenever possible.
📱 Let someone know where you are hunting and when you expect to return.
🌧️ Be aware of changing weather and slippery conditions.
Kentucky Fish & Wildlife is also reminding hunters to inspect their tree stands before use. Don't assume that a stand that was safe last season is still safe today.
Take a few minutes to inspect your equipment. Those few minutes could save your life.
From all of us at Nelson County Fire & Rescue — be safe, hunt smart, and good luck this season! 🦌🔥
