********Dirt work has begun!! *******

New construction beginning for a new and improved Fire Station!

This has been a long talked and planned out project, but it is finally coming true. All parts of the fire department have been working hard to improve gear and equipment. Time has come though that we have outgrown our current space. In order to continue to provide a great service and continue to grow, a new space is a necessity.

This new space will allow for all our apparatus to be stored in one building rather than two. Which will help with consistency on response time. It will allow for growth on equipment selection. Allow for a larger more comfortable area for trainings and community gatherings. It is setting up our next generation with a place they can continue to operate in - ensuring a continued fire service for all community members.

Thank you to the following contributors:

Although it has been good prescribe fire weather and we are happy people are out enjoying it. Near record breaking temperatures and lack of moisture is causing our fuels to dry out.

Please do your due diligences and check your burns that have been performed this week. With forecasted temperatures and low humidity values it will not take much to have an escape fire.

There will be a NO BURN for Barnes RFD2 fire district Saturday and Sunday 03/21-22.

A Red Flag Warning has been issued for Saturday. Do not burn and ensure all fires are extinguished before Saturday.

🔥As the snow melts across Kansas, it won’t be long before vegetation dries out and becomes burnable. Now is the time to check old burn piles—stir them up and make sure they are completely cold. A windy day is all it takes for hidden embers to spark a wildfire.

Thanks to the DOI, Office of Wildland Fire. RFD 2 picked up 3 brand new skid units from Hieman Fire.

These skid units will upgrade our current outdated units and allow us to build a new Type 6 Engine to add to our fleet. Upgrading equipment is one of our efforts to ensure a more efficient response to the emergencies in our area.

These upgrades will also allow us to begin supplying a cache of equipment for local private landowners to use for their own prescribe fire needs. If you are looking for ways to perform a prescribe burn of your own and just dont have the best equipment to do so. Soon youll be able to schedule equipment that will hopefully allow you to better perform those operations. Continue to watch our social media in the future for updates.
