πŸš’πŸš‘ SEVERE WEATHER & EMERGENCY RESPONSE: A MESSAGE TO OUR COMMUNITY ❀️

At Lamar County Fire Rescue, our commitment to protecting and serving our community never changes, even when the weather does. Please know all public safety agencies are working together collectively to prepare as best we can. Storms always have a level of unpredictable movement and impact.

As an increased potential for severe weather approaches, we want to take a moment to explain something important that many people may not realize.

β›ˆοΈ There may be times during severe weather when conditions become so dangerous that we must temporarily suspend the movement of fire trucks, ambulances, and other emergency response vehicles. We will order a shelter in place. This not only applies to our residential community but also our public safety team members.

We know that when you call 911, you are depending on someone to come help you. We understand the fear, uncertainty, and urgency that can come with an emergency, especially during a storm.

Please know that a decision to temporarily stop emergency vehicle movement and shelter in place is never made lightly.

Our firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics have families waiting for them at home, too. They willingly put themselves in harm’s way every day to protect others. But there are weather conditions, particularly during tornadoes, extreme winds, and dangerous roadway conditions, when sending emergency vehicles onto the roads could put our responders, their patients, and other motorists at even greater risk.

❀️ We cannot help our community if our emergency responders become victims of the storm themselves.

So, what does this mean for you?

🚨 911 WILL STILL BE AVAILABLE. If you have an emergency, please continue to call 911. Dispatchers will receive your call, gather information, and coordinate the appropriate response.

πŸš’ Emergency responses may be delayed. If conditions become too dangerous for safe travel, emergency vehicles may need to remain in a safe location until conditions improve. Calls will be prioritized by level of critical need.

πŸŒͺ️ A temporary suspension does NOT mean we have abandoned our community. It means we are protecting the people and equipment necessary to continue serving you when it is safe to do so.

❀️ We will resume emergency responses as soon as conditions allow. Our goal is always to reach you as quickly and safely as possible.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

🏠 Have a severe weather plan for your household.

πŸ“± Keep your phone charged and weather alerts enabled.

πŸ’Š Make sure you have essential medications, medical supplies, and other necessities readily available.

🌳 Stay off the roads during dangerous weather unless absolutely necessary.

πŸ“» Pay attention to official weather alerts and emergency instructions.

Most importantly, please do not wait until severe weather is directly upon us to make preparations. START PREPARING TODAY!!!!

We are incredibly blessed to serve a community that supports its first responders, and we want you to understand that every decision we make during severe weather is guided by one priority: protecting lives β€” yours and ours.

We will always do everything within our ability to answer your call for help. Sometimes, the safest and most responsible decision is to wait for the worst of the storm to pass so that we can get to you safely.

Our commitment to you does not stop when our trucks do. ❀️

Please follow Lamar County EOC and Lamar County Georgia Sheriff's Office as well for updates.

Thank you for your understanding, your patience, and your continued support.

Lamar County Code Enforcement is now fully prepared to enforce the "No Through Trucks" restrictions on designated county roads. Enforcement efforts began yesterday with citations issued on Van Buren Road and Johnstonville Road. As a reminder, these restrictions apply to vehicles over 30 feet in length or vehicles with six or more wheels that are used to transport property, goods, or materials.
