🚒 NEW FIREHOUSE UPDATE

Things are getting closer to the finish line at the new Barneveld Firehouse!

Our site contractor, Central New York Construction, has been busy prepping the parking lot, with paving contractors expected to be on site within the next few weeks. Inside the building, work continues on sheetrock and utilities as we keep moving toward the finish line.

We want to send out a BIG thank you to Ben Hanna and the entire crew at Central New York Construction for all their hard work and dedication to this project. The Hanna family has a long history here in the Barneveld community, and it means a lot to have local people putting in the time and effort to help bring our new firehouse together.

We’re getting closer every day, and we appreciate everyone who continues to support this project and our department. We can’t wait to see this place come together!

The officers and members of the Barneveld Fire Dept. would like to offer our prayers and condolences to all affected by this incident. Thank you to all of our dedicated members who responded and thank you to the members of Remsen FD and the NYS Dept. of Transportation crews who assisted with closing the road.

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, at approximately 10:15 PM on October 8, 2026, Road Patrol Deputies were dispatched to the vicinity of State Route 12 and Mappa Ave in the Town of Trenton for reports of an adult male walking in the roadway. While responding to this 911 call, Deputies were then dispatched to the same vicinity for reports of a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle. Once Deputies arrived on scene, a male was located deceased in the southbound lane of State Route 12. Due to the nature of the incident, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit and Forensic Identification Unit responded to the scene to assist.

Although the investigation is ongoing, preliminary findings determined that the pedestrian was walking in the middle of the southbound lane of State Route 12 when he was struck by a white 2018 GMC Utility van which was traveling south on State Route 12. The GMC Utility van was being operated by Tyreke Baxter, age 24, from Watertown, NY. After Baxter’s vehicle struck the pedestrian, he stopped, called 911, and remained on scene until law enforcement arrived.

The deceased pedestrian has been identified as Aaron Sosnowski, age 56, from the Town of Trenton, NY. During the investigation, State Route 12 was closed as members of the Sheriff’s Office reconstructed the accident.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the New York State Police, the Barneveld Fire Department, and the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office.

At this time, the investigation is still ongoing.

🚒🔥 FIRE PREVENTION DAY 2026 🔥🚒

A big THANK YOU to the students from Holland Patent Elementary School for spending the day with us at the Holland Patent Firehouse!

Our members, along with the members of the Holland Patent Hose Co., were proud to welcome the kids to the firehouse and spend some time talking about fire safety, prevention, and what it means to be a firefighter.

Days like today are what it’s all about — getting the next generation familiar with their local fire department and teaching them the importance of fire safety. 👨‍🚒👩‍🚒

We’d also like to thank the teachers and staff for bringing the students down and helping make another Fire Prevention Day a great success!
