Starting Monday October 5, 2026 there will be some adjustments to the road construction on 3rd Ave. During construction hours (M-F 7:00am to 3:00pm) it will be much of the same. 3rd Ave closed at Clements Bridge Rd (CBR) and Haines Ave. Trenton will be closed from Lawrence to CBR (Local traffic may pass). We will have officers out to assist with getting around the construction and ensuring the children walking to Ken's Corner can get there safely.

After construction 3rd Ave will be closed going Northbound (towards Haddon Heights) from CBR to Haines Ave. Traffic coming from Haddon Heights will get through, and traffic crossing 3rd at Haines and Trenton will be able to cross.

At an abundance of caution, if you can avoid the area, do so. The road will be torn up and the area may be difficult to navigate.

⚠️ SCAM ALERT – PHONE NUMBER SPOOFING ⚠️

The Barrington Police Department is warning residents of a recent phone scam in which scammers are spoofing legitimate phone numbers, making calls appear to be coming from trusted financial institutions and law enforcement agencies.

In the recently reported scam, the victim was contacted through a two-step process. The scammers first spoofed the phone number of the victim’s bank or credit card company. The victim was then contacted by someone falsely claiming to represent law enforcement, with the call appearing to come from the Barrington Police Department’s legitimate phone number.

The scammers attempted to convince the victim that their financial accounts had been compromised and that they needed to withdraw or turn over money.

Please remember:
• Caller ID can be manipulated. A familiar or legitimate phone number appearing on your Caller ID does not guarantee the call is actually coming from that organization.
• If you receive a suspicious call claiming to be from your bank, credit card company, or law enforcement, hang up and independently call that organization using its publicly listed number or the number printed on the back of your card.
• Do not use a phone number provided by the caller.
• The Barrington Police Department will never call and demand that you withdraw or turn over money or make payment through gift cards, cryptocurrency, money transfers, or payment apps.
• Never provide banking information, passwords, Social Security numbers, or other sensitive information to an unsolicited caller.

The phone-number spoofing involved in these incidents is one-way. If you independently dial the Barrington Police Department’s legitimate phone number, your call will reach our department. The same precaution should be taken with your bank or credit card company—hang up and call them directly to verify the legitimacy of the original call.

When in doubt, hang up and verify. Scammers often rely on urgency and fear to keep victims from taking the time to confirm who they are actually speaking with.

Please share this information with family, friends, and neighbors, particularly those who may be more vulnerable to these types of scams.

Today, the Barrington Borough - NJ held a September 11th Memorial Service at the 9/11 Memorial at Borough Hall.

Chief Minardi and members of the Barrington Police Department were honored to join our community in remembering the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and recognizing the courage and sacrifice of the first responders who ran toward danger to help others.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to honor those who were lost, those who answered the call, and the families whose lives were forever changed.

We are grateful to everyone who joined us today to ensure their memory lives on.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸

BACK TO SCHOOL, BARRINGTON

While many of our neighboring towns have already headed back to school, Barrington students return tomorrow, September 8!

As everyone gets back into the school-year routine, please allow extra time during your morning and afternoon commutes. Watch for children walking and biking to school, school buses making frequent stops, and increased traffic throughout town.

CONSTRUCTION REMINDER:
Construction in the area of Austin Avenue and 3rd Avenue is continuing. School buses will be permitted to cross 3rd Avenue during construction.

Please be patient, follow all posted signs and directions, and use extra caution around the construction area, school zones, bus stops, and throughout Barrington.

Slow down. Stay alert. Drive carefully.

The Barrington Police Department wishes all of our students, families, teachers, and staff a safe and successful school year!

Happy Labor Day!
