Trending Social Media Threats
The Basehor Police Department has identified an increase in online threats targeting teenagers through social media platforms like Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook.
Scammers are using AI to create fake, sexually explicit images of teens and threatening to share them with friends and family unless money or gift cards are paid.
IMPORTANT: These images can be entirely AI-generated. A teen does not have to take or share an inappropriate photo to become a victim.
How to Protect Yourself:
✅Be cautious when connecting with strangers online.
✅Do not pay or engage with the person making threats.
✅Save messages, usernames, and screenshots as evidence. Do not share explicit images.
✅Tell a trusted adult and report threats to law enforcement immediately.
✅Parents, keep communication open and remind your teens they can ask for help without fear of embarrassment or punishment.
The Basehor Police Department takes these threats seriously. If you or your child is targeted, contact law enforcement.
