Apparently our Social Media Lady has been slacking. We’d fire her, but she’s a volunteer, so our options are limited. While she’s been neglecting her duties, the rest of BHC SAR has actually been working. So, here’s what you missed:
Mission #49 - Battle Park/Lake Solitude
At 8:43 p.m. on September 7, we were called for two riders who headed from Battle Park toward Lake Solitude on mules, gone off trail, and hadn’t returned as expected.
This one came with a little technological assist. Dispatch learned that someone was communicating with the group via InReach, and we were able to get a screenshot of their location. Our team terrain-matched it, plotted the location in CalTopo, and sent teams in. We transported Mom back to Battle Park to retrieve the trailer, her daughter remained at the trailhead, and the boys ultimately led the mules safely out.
Mission #50 - Big Horn Canyon
We were called for boaters stranded in the canyon after their motor quit. Fortunately, they did everything right: they had sleeping bags, extra clothes, food, and water with them. Our team headed out, located them, and towed the boat safely back to the dock where their vehicle was parked.
Mission #51 - Forest Service Road 334
On September 14 at 3:52 p.m., we were dispatched to a dirt bike wreck above Hyattville, off Cold Springs Road. With members responding from several locations, we sent a side-by-side in while First Flight of Wyoming was paged. The patient was moved approximately three-quarters of a mile in the back of a deputy’s truck to a location where First Flight could land and take over care.
We also assisted law enforcement with an incident in Cowley on September 14. We’ll leave mission #52 at that.
Mission #53 - The Great iPhone Rescue
At 8:48 p.m. on September 15, we received an iPhone crash notification near Antelope that indicated its owner may have been injured. Our team headed that direction, found no crashed vehicles, checked the ditches, and started searching.
Eventually, we found the victim: It was the iPhone. Its owners were staying at a nearby hunting cabin and had been riding a side-by-side when the phone apparently made an unscheduled departure. We regret that despite our best efforts, it could not be revived.
Mission #54 - West Tensleep Trailhead
On September 20 at 5:50 p.m., we were dispatched for two 23-year-olds who were supposed to have returned earlier in the day but hadn’t. As a deputy was heading toward the trailhead and we were preparing to respond, the parents received the message everyone was hoping for: they had heard from them.
So yes, Social Media Lady is behind. But the team isn’t. Her annual performance review isn’t looking great, so please tell her to get it together while giving the team a round of applause for their efforts.
