The Bastrop High School NJROTC cadets will hold a 9/11 Memorial Ceremony at Erhard Field on the morning of September 11th.

Prayers. Songs. Remembrance.

25 years later, we have young people who weren’t even alive on September 11, 2001 choosing to stop, learn the names, honor the lives lost, and make sure our community remembers.

Twas a serene sunrise over Minerva Delgado Park, savoring the silence of the dawn before the splash of the day.

I love it all.

I loved it when it was a kite-flying field. I loved it when the covered playset came. I loved it when Mina elementary students planted trees. I loved it when Curtis Griffin painted the incredible mural of Minerva Delgado as a child.

And I love it now - full of delightful squeals from sun-soaked, water-logged kiddos having the best days of their lives.

Whenever I attend a public meeting, I try to bring something FRESH to the room.

Sometimes it’s figs, sometimes it’s flowers, sometimes it’s a sprig of mint tucked in my shirt, sometimes it’s a fresh perspective, sometimes it’s something more subtle - like seeing someone with fresh eyes and sending them a blessing. It’s just a little token of ALIVENESS to offer the room, the participants, and the discussion.

The surprise rain a few days ago brought a fresh batch of blooms to my zinnias that were on the way out for the season.

And so I offer you the FRESHNESS from my ZINNA PATCH to your digital space, if you happen to be scrolling by.

Thanks for being in my world ~ you’re pretty great, and you deserve flowers! 🌸
