๐ŸŽ“ Congratulations, Assistant Chief Nick Laux๐ŸŽ“

Today, Assistant Fire Chief Laux graduated from the Texas Fire Chiefs Association (TFCA) Texas Fire Chiefs Academy in San Marcos after completing the two-year program.

The academy prepares current and future fire service leaders for the challenges of leading a department. It covers leadership, emergency management, finances, legislative issues, firefighter safety, and more. In the second year, each student researches a fire service topic and presents it to a panel of fire professionals. With graduation, he has also earned the Certified Fire Executive (CFE) designation.

This took two years of hard work and a big commitment of his time. We're proud of you, Chief, and grateful for your dedication to the Bastrop Fire Department and our community! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿš’

Upcoming prescribed burn at Camp Swift.

๐Ÿ”ฅPrescribed Fire Notice๐Ÿ”ฅ

Texas A&M Forest Service personnel will be conducting prescribed fires at Camp Swift near Bastrop as part of the Texas Interagency Wildfire Academy. Prescribed fire is the planned application of low-intensity fire to the landscape by fire and fuel specialists to maintain healthy, resilient landscapes.

Agency firefighters plan to burn portions of Unit 7 during two training sessions scheduled for Oct. 7-8 and Oct. 13-14. Burning will occur on one day during each session, depending on weather and conditions Unit 7 consists of 234 acres and will be divided into north and south sections, with one section planned for each session.

These burns are designed to meet multiple land management objectives, including reducing hazardous fuel loading, managing understories, improving wildlife habitat, improving range management, and serving as a public demonstration.

These burns provide fire personnel working on various qualifications the opportunity to train under a planned environment. The burns at Camp Swift also serve as field exercises for S-219, Firing Operations, courses held during the academy.

Each prescribed burn unit has defined weather parameters and firing patterns to ensure that the objectives are met and conducted safely. Texas A&M Forest Service personnel will monitor all prescribed burns to evaluate achievement of goals and help guide future prescriptions.

Nearby residents may see smoke during ignition operations, but it should have no impact on nearby roadways. These effects will be mitigated by conducting the burns on days with good ventilation so that smoke will be dispersed away from communities.

๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ“š We had a great time at the Bastrop Public Library for Story Time today!

A big thank you to the library for inviting us out to spend some time with the kids. Our firefighters showed them what we look like fully dressed in our firefighting gear, so they can recognize us and know not to be afraid if they ever see us during an emergency. โค๏ธ

The kids also got an up-close look at the fire truck and learned about some of the different tools and equipment we use to help keep our community safe. ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ

Couldnโ€™t make it today? Weโ€™ll be back at the Bastrop Public Library again this Friday! We hope to see you there!

Thank you again to the library for having us and for giving us the opportunity to share a little fire safety with some of the youngest members of our community! ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿš’โค๏ธ

๐Ÿš’ Bastrop Fire Department โ€” TIFMAS Deployment

Bastrop Fire Department personnel have been proud to participate in a recent Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) deployment, assisting with wildland fire operations across West Texas.

Our crews have traveled throughout the region, working alongside firefighters and agencies from across the state to help protect communities, homes, property, and critical infrastructure from active wildland fires.

From Fort Stockton to San Angelo and surrounding areas, our firefighters have been working long hours in challenging conditions, performing structure protection, mop-up, and monitoring operations.

Weโ€™re proud of our members who continue to answer the call beyond our own community and represent Bastrop Fire Department across the state.
