Basye-Orkney Springs Community Library Basye Station of the Shenandoah County Library The Basye-Orkney Springs Community Library is an all volunteer branch of the Shenandoah County Public Library.

We are open to the public, offering many services available without a library card, including: free Wi-Fi (available outside 24/7) and internet access, printing/copying/scanning, puzzles, games, and group events. Adjacent to a public playground and dog park.

Tech Help with Scott Boger

Scott has been helping people with tech problems for two years now! Every Monday afternoon from 2 to 4pm, you can drop by the Basye-Orkney Springs Library for friendly help from Scott. No appointment is needed, and there is no charge for this service.

Scott says most questions deal with email problems, cell phone questions, and tablet challenges.

Scott started this service as a way for him to give back to his community. After a receiving a fellowship from Laurel Ridge Community College, he is currently enrolled in a two-year bachelor’s degree program in cybersecurity.

Scott is one of more than two dozen local residents who volunteer their time to our library. His wife, Donna, also volunteers here; besides helping to run the circulation desk, she has been involved in the children’s summer reading program and other special events.

"You can never get enough books into the hands of enough children." - Dolly Parton

If you have a child under the age of five, did you know that you can get free children’s books mailed to you every month? The Basye-Orkney Springs Community Library is a proud participant in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program.

Thanks to the Shenandoah Education Foundation
and the State of Virginia, all children in Shenandoah County are eligible to receive a free age-appropriate book every month until their 5th birthday. Some titles are also available in bilingual English/Spanish, audio, and braille.

Dolly Parton started this program in 1995. Today, more than 3 million books a month are sent to children in the United States and all over the world.

Bring us your clean, gently used costumes beginning 9/18 and get a ticket to use for early access on our swap day. Remaining costumes will be available to the community after the event.

We'll also have a special spooky prize drawing - details coming soon!

The Shenandoah County public libraries, in cooperation with the Shenandoah NAACP, will host a voter register sign-up on Tuesday, September 15th. The event at the Basye Orkney Springs Library will be from 10 am - 2 pm. You can register to vote, and check your voter status and polling place. Trained volunteers will be available to assist you.

We recently received dozens of “new to us“ large print novels for our collection.
To make room for them, we’ve had to make some changes:

🔍Large Print is now on the back wall of our Adult Fiction room.
🧐Classic novels are shelved alphabetically within Adult Fiction
📖Some classics are shelved according to the Dewey Decimal System in the 810s and 820s section of our nonfiction room (800s = English Literature, Poetry, Drama, etc.).
🧩Our large collection of donated jigsaw puzzles has been moved to the lower Back Room Books sales room. As always, these puzzles may be borrowed for free (no library card necessary) or kept in exchange for any donation.
