NEW CIVIL WAR DATABASE

Fold3 has added a new record collection titled Atlanta, Georgia, Confederate States of America Quartermaster Department, 1861-1864, which includes administrative ledgers logging supply, clothing, and equipment issued in the South during the Civil War. These records often include details not found on standard muster rolls, showing location changes, supply distribution, and everyday survival conditions. You can search the database of over 8,000 records for free, but to view youโ€™ll need either a subscription or a visit to a local FamilySearch center or affiliate library. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ HAPPY US FLAG DAY ARKASNAS! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Today, Americans across Arkansas and the nation celebrate Flag Day, honoring the adoption of the United States flag on June 14, 1777.

For nearly 250 years, the Stars and Stripes has stood as a symbol of freedom, courage, sacrifice, and opportunity. It represents the men and women who have served our country, the generations who built our nation, and the values that unite us as Americans.

As our nation approaches its 250th anniversary, Flag Day is a reminder of our shared history and the freedoms we enjoy every day.

Take a moment today to proudly display the American flag and remember what it represents.

God Bless America. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

In the early hours of September 19, 1980, an Air Force maintenance crew was working inside a Titan II missile silo outside Damascus, Arkansas. A technician dropped an 8-pound wrench socket. It fell 70 feet down the silo shaft and punctured the first-stage fuel tank.

Eight hours later, the missile exploded. The 740-ton blast door was thrown from the silo opening. The W-53 nuclear warhead, the most powerful in the American arsenal, was launched 200 yards into an Arkansas cornfield.

Airman David Livingston was killed. The warhead did not detonate. But the post-accident investigation found that only one of eight required safety mechanisms was still active.

The missile that nearly detonated a 9-megaton warhead in rural Arkansas sat 30 miles from Little Rock.
