An unfortunate message from Ryan Liscinski about a hotel in the Village of Bath, New York.
"I trained for months getting ready to try to Boston qualify at the Wineglass marathon. I had a really consistent summer, hard workouts, long tempo days, and good long runs.
My good friend and one man band support crew expert Eliott Bonds, and I drove to Corning Saturday afternoon. I picked up my race bib, and then we mapped out the aid stops for roughly every 4 miles. Great, so far so good.
We got to the hotel Finger Lakes inn & Suites in Bath NY around 8:00pm Saturday. I checked in and we went to check out the room. The elevator was shady as was the lobby, we got to the third floor and it smelled terrible. The room door was open, with the latch blocking the door from closing. The floor cleaning machine was still in the room when we got there, ok still nothing major. Then I checked the beds for bedbugs and found remains of bed bugs, bed bug traps, a dead cockroach in the AC switch panel, and the room carpet was absolutely disgusting. We left immediately.
So now I’m stressing, we find a hotel, but they wanted $300 for the night, and I’ve already spent $300 on the last hotel and despite the fact the front desk attendant said he’d cancel my reservation. I don’t think I’m getting that money back. The stress is immense now because it’s after 9:00, we’re now farther from the start than I planned for. I’ve had it and we’re just going home, because I can’t handle the stress.
This feels atypical of me, but I just didn’t feel ready to race anymore. Trying to BQ isn’t anything like just running the distance to complete a marathon.
Moral of the story. Because of the s**tty hotel Finger lakes inn & suite. I’m not racing the Wineglass Race Series marathon tomorrow. I’m now out my registration cost, and probably the first hotel fee and a s**t load of gas.
