Lights, Camera, Action!

A group of BRCVPA Students (and their parents) got up bright and early Wednesday morning to be featured on 9 News This Morning for a piece about Magnet Showcase Week! They interviewed Khadijah, James, and Ava, 3 of our Magnet Ambassadors, while Ms. Yglesias' Drop the Beat group rehearsed in the background. Being a part of a live morning show was a neat experience for all! The kids were treated to donuts, and the adults got an impromptu piano recital from Matt Venezia!

Thank you to and for the opportunity!

Congratulations to Ms. Keri Pertuit, our 2026-2027 Magnet Teacher of the Year! Ms. Pertuit came to BRCVPA in 2020 as a first-year teacher. Since then, she has innovated and expanded the Instrumental Music program, and now teaches students in Kindergarten through 5th Grade! You can find her at every production in the BRCVPA Orchestra Pit leading our students in making music; sometimes of their own creation!

Before coming to BRCVPA, Ms. Pertuit got her undergraduate degree in Music Education from Southeastern, and her Masters in Music Composition from LSU.

Most recently, she has been recognized by the Louisiana Music Teachers Association as the Commissioned Composer of the Year, and was a Featured Composer at the Batture Contemporary New Music Festival in New Orleans.

Ms. Pertuit is married (to another music teacher!) with two kids who attend BRCVPA. She has a full house of pets, including 2 dogs, 1 cat (with another on the way), 3 fish, 2 turtles, and 4 chickens. In her spare time, she enjoys adventures and camping with her family. Her favorite color is orange!
