When beef is on the gameday menu, families like the Duncans are behind it. In Rapides Parish, Robert and Rachel Duncan raise cattle, grow soybeans and hay, and sell their farm-raised beef directly to families in their community.

Their three young daughters are already following them through the fields, checking cattle and learning the work that has shaped their family for generations. As Robert and Rachel adapt their operation and find new ways to make every acre count, they are also raising the fifth generation to understand where their food comes from and what it takes to produce it.

The rice in your favorite tailgate dishes begins long before gameday. In St. Landry Parish, Jeffery Sylvester and his family grow rice as part of an operation built through years of patience, research and hard work.🌾

Jeffery farms alongside his brothers, while two of his sons now farm nearby and six grandsons are growing up watching it all. He credits agricultural research and his involvement in the rice industry with helping the operation grow, but his focus remains on making sure the next generation has an opportunity to continue the work if they choose.

Louisiana Farm Bureau held its first Collegiate Discussion Meet Saturday, where college students put their knowledge and communication skills to work as they discussed real issues facing agriculture.

Kinzie Waits took home first place, earning a $750 scholarship and an expenses-paid trip to compete in the American Farm Bureau Collegiate Discussion Meet. Congratulations also to finalists Hannah Timmons, Madelyn Fossum and Chacelyn Peltier, who each earned a $250 scholarship!
