I enjoyed stopping by Chris’s Specialty Meats, a member of the Certified Louisiana program, and seeing all the Louisiana favorites they have to offer. From boudin and stuffed chicken to crawfish pie, there’s plenty to choose from when you want a taste of home.

In this episode of Crawfish Tales, we’re taking a closer look at this local business and the people behind it. Supporting Louisiana businesses helps keep our communities strong.

Louisiana’s forests are an important part of our way of life. Our forestry industry supports jobs and families across the state and provides products we rely on every day. During National Forest Products Week, it’s a good time to reflect on all our forests contribute to Louisiana and the importance of keeping them healthy for future generations.

With heavy hearts, we mourn the loss of Kaitlyn “KK” Gallagher, 24, of Alexandria, a U.S. Forest Service wildland firefighter who lost her life in the line of duty while responding to a wildfire in Louisiana’s Kisatchie National Forest.

KK dedicated herself to protecting our natural resources and serving others. Her courage, love of the outdoors and heart for service touched the lives of many, both on and off the fire line.

We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends and fellow firefighters. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this heartbreaking time.

Rest in peace, KK. Your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Today, we celebrate National Farmers Day and National Loggers Day. I’m grateful for the farmers, ranchers, loggers, and foresters who work hard every day to provide for their families, support our communities, and keep Louisiana agriculture and forestry strong. Please join me in thanking them for all they do for our great state.
