Nearly 400 Vernon Parish students recently explored how their everyday choices can help protect Louisiana’s waterways at the annual Water Festival. LDEQ Small Business Environmental Assistance Program (SBEAP) environmental scientists Dr. Perry Fontenot III and Tessa Roy brought the Enviroscape model to the festival, showing students the difference between point source and nonpoint source pollution and how recycling can make a major difference for our state’s ecosystems.

LDEQ has had a busy week of outreach across Louisiana! Our staff connected with students, families and communities at the 5th Annual Ascension Public Schools Career & College Expo in Gonzales, Swamp Life Expo in Grosse Tete, and Discover Coastal Louisiana Nature & Wildlife event at the LSU Center for River Studies in Baton Rouge.

Each of these events offered a unique opportunity to connect with the public — from helping students explore future careers to celebrating the natural resources that make our state so special — and we’re always happy to get out in the community and share our mission.
