The Battle Creek Volunteer Fire and Rescue held their Annual Open House for St. John Lutheran School and the Public School children for Pre K up to 4th grade. There were 363 students that went through our station.
This event was about much more than fire safety. It was an opportunity to connect with students, build relationships, and introduce them to some of the Firefighters and EMT’s. We showed them the equipment that are on our fire trucks, the gear that we wear during an emergency. They also were showed how fire extinguishers are used.
After that they went to see the equipment that we have in the Rescue Unit and she what EMT’s use in an emergency.
To finish off their tour they received a cookie and juice.
While they were eating we had our Police Officer Amanda speak to them about bike safety, scooter safety on our streets, car seats and booster seats and to always wear their seat belts.
Our mission in public safety goes beyond responding to calls. It’s about educating our children building trust, being prepared, and making sure every child knows there are people who are here to help when they need us.
We were proud to get to hold this open house house every year to help children understand how fire prevention and fire safety is important to our children and community which makes our communities safer.
A special thank you to all of our Fire and Rescue members who came together to make this open house possible. We are incredibly grateful for our team here.
Most importantly, a special thank you to the students and staff from our schools for allowing the students the opportunity for us to show and educate about fire prevention and fire safety.
