HI Haven Nation.
A few weeks ago, we shared with our community that the Haven of Rest was facing a significant financial challenge. Today, we're pleased to report that, thanks to some very generous friends and supporters, we've made tremendous progress toward our goal!
We still have approximately $80,000 to $100,000 to raise over the next few weeks, but we're getting there!
We also recognize that this is the second year in a row we've made a significant financial appeal to our community. Understandably, that raises questions.
Let's talk about that.
These challenges are not simply the result of an annual operating deficit, but a combination of lost federal funding, the timing of government grant reimbursements, and substantial investments in modernizing our two substance abuse treatment programs, (a men's and a women's program) which together represent approximately $1 million in annual operating costs.
Over the past year, we've invested heavily in preparing these substance abuse treatment programs - provided free to all participants - to bill Medicaid for eligible treatment services, an important step toward long-term financial sustainability. We expect to begin Medicaid billing November 1st.
Medicaid billing won't necessarily solve all of our financial challenges. It represents a new revenue source for the LRP's, not a guarantee of profitability or immediate cash flow. Reimbursements may take several months to materialize, but we're making meaningful progress toward a more sustainable future.
Our immediate challenge is bridging this gap until government grant reimbursements resume later this fall, while continuing to meet the substantial costs of operating our shelters and recovery programs.
Will this cycle be repeated next year? Not if we can help it. We realize two years in a row is a trend. We're not interested in repeating this a third year.
If you were considering a Christmas or year-end gift to the Haven, would you consider making that gift now? Your generosity today would make an especially meaningful difference.
To everyone who has already helped us, THANK YOU!! We're making progress, and with a little more help, we'll get through this challenging season together.
