STANDING TOGETHER AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE 💜

October is also Domestic Violence Awareness Month, our office is wearing purple to show our support for survivors of domestic violence, honor those we have lost, and raise awareness for a cause that affects far too many lives.

Behind every statistic is a real person, a family, and a story that deserves to be heard. Domestic violence is not always visible, but the pain and lasting effects are real. We stand with survivors, remember the lives lost, and hope for a future where everyone can live free from fear and abuse.

💜 Wear purple. Raise awareness. Break the silence. Stand with survivors.

Together, we can make a difference by offering support, speaking up, and reminding those affected that they are not alone.

💜

JURY FINDS JARED TARANT SMITH-BRACY GUILTY OF CAPITAL MURDER IN QUADRUPLE HOMICIDE

A Baldwin County jury has found Jared Tarant Smith-Bracy guilty of Capital Murder following a nine-day trial in Baldwin County Circuit Court.

Smith-Bracy was convicted in connection with the February 22, 2023, murders of Sheila Glover, Barbara Smith, Lenard Smith, and Jeremy Smith in the Lake Forest subdivision in Daphne. The four victims suffered fatal injuries during the attack.

Chief Assistant District Attorney Teresa Heinz and Assistant District Attorney Preston Huggins prosecuted the case with the assistance of Certified Victim Service Officer Amy Gilkey and Heather DeAngelo. The case was investigated by the Daphne Police Department under the leadership of then- Sgt. Jason Vannoy, who now serves as Chief Investigator for the Baldwin County District Attorney's Office. The District Attorney's Office also extends its appreciation to the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Division for its assistance throughout the investigation and prosecution.

Most importantly, the Baldwin County District Attorney's Office recognizes the families and loved ones of Sheila Glover, Barbara Smith, Lenard Smith, and Jeremy Smith, who have endured an unimaginable loss and remained steadfast throughout this lengthy process.

"Our thoughts have remained with these families from the beginning," Chief Assistant District Attorney Teresa Heinz said. "Nothing that happens in a courtroom can undo the tremendous loss they have suffered or bring their loved ones back. We hope this verdict provides some measure of justice, healing, and closure as they continue to move forward. We are deeply grateful for the strength and trust they have shown throughout the process."

The Baldwin County District Attorney's Office also thanks the jurors for their time, attention, and service throughout the nine-day trial. Sentencing has been set for December 16th, 2026.
